High-profile film shoots with Jude Law, Peter Dinklage, heading to Alberta

Several high-profile film and TV productions are scheduled to shoot in the Calgary area this year, including projects starring Jude Law and Peter Dinklage and a new western series by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter.

Deadline, an industry website, reported earlier this month that Oscar-nominated British actor Jude Law and British actor Nicholas Hoult, currently winning rave reviews for his work in the dark comedy The Menu, will star in The Order. The thriller will be directed by Australian director Justin Kurzel, who directed 2015’s Macbeth. The film is set in 1983 and stars Law as an FBI agent investigating a series of violent bank robberies organized by a domestic terrorist played by Hoult. Production will begin in May in Alberta, although specific locations have yet to be determined.

That is just one of a number of projects set to shoot in the Calgary area. According to the industry website Production Weekly, the film The Thicket is also set to begin production in Calgary. It stars Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage and Cape Fear’s Juliette Lewis. According to Internet Movie Database, the film is set in west Texas and focuses on a boy who hires a ragtag group of bounty hunters, including one played by Dinklage, to rescue his sister after she is kidnapped by bank robbers. According to the ACTRA Alberta website, it is set to start filming on Feb. 27.
